People riding mountain bikes

Father’s Day in the UK falls on the third Sunday in June every year, and in 2017 it is on 18 June. It’s a great chance for you to celebrate the role that your dad plays in your life and an opportunity for you to spoil him rotten.

If you are looking for a special way to celebrate Father’s Day with your dad, we have a few suggestions that won’t break the bank below:

Make a card

While a shop-bought card will often contain a lovely message, get crafty this Father’s Day and make a card for him. Cut out, draw or create a card instead of buying one – perhaps one including a family photograph.

You can bet that a handmade card will be the one that takes pride of place in his office or on the mantelpiece at home.

Go for a bike ride

A great way to spend quality time with your dad on Father’s Day is to go for a bike ride. There are loads of great bike rides across the country – perhaps look at riding down a riverbank or canal side, or head to a nearby forest or wood.

Spending the day on two wheels is fun and healthy, and you could even include a bicycle treasure hunt or a stop-off for lunch at a country pub.

If you don’t enjoy cycling, then take a hike instead. You could find a local walk that the whole family will enjoy (and make sure it’s suitable for everyone so Dad doesn’t end up carrying the kids on his back!)

Take him out to play a sport he loves

Dads often have a particular sport that they love, but perhaps not the time to ever get around to playing it. So, get active this Father’s Day and head out to play a sport together.

If he’s a golf fanatic, take him to the course and offer to caddy for him. Or, book a tennis or squash court and challenge him to a match.

Even if it’s something as simple as taking a football or frisbee to your local park, get your dad out of breath by joining him in a game.

Buy a personalised gift

Head to websites such as notonthehighstreet.co.uk or etsy.co.uk to find loads of personalised gifts.

You could have a photo of the two of printed onto a mug, canvas or a mouse mat. You can also buy a range of other personalised gifts, from bottles of beer to framed prints. You can even buy books that are personalised with the names of you and your dad.

Make his breakfast

They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. So, let your dad have a lie in and cook his breakfast for him.

You could consider a full English breakfast or perhaps a continental breakfast with a pot of tea, some pastries and a copy of the Sunday newspaper?

Maybe you don’t want to stop at breakfast? Father’s Day is a great opportunity to bake a special cake or to create a beautiful picnic that you can enjoy in the local park.

Look at some old photos

Father’s Day is a great chance for you to do nothing more than spend some quality time with your dad.

Make him a cup of tea, sit down and go through all your old photos. Having the chance to reminisce about experiences and to laugh at things you’ve done together will make his day.

Host a movie night

Grab some popcorn, make or order your dad’s favourite pizza, and find a movie which the whole family will enjoy.

A sports movie such as Field of Dreams, Million Dollar Arm or McFarland USA are great choices. Or, animated films celebrating fathers – perhaps The Incredibles, Finding Nemo or Despicable Me – are fantastic choices too.

A movie night in is a great way to end your Father’s Day on a high note.

We hope these ideas have helped you to find a way to show your dad you care on Father’s Day and that yourself and your father thoroughly enjoy the occasion.
