We’re one of the oldest mutuals in the world and have been looking after our members’ finances for almost 200 years, so we can assure you that you are in safe hands. We’ve always been in the background as the insurer of your DeadHappy policy, and we’ll now just be taking a more active role in the day-to-day management.

On 15th July 2024, DeadHappy formally handed over the management of your policy to us, as the insurer.

We’d like to assure you that that nothing has changed in terms of your cover – your policy is still in place, the terms of your cover are still the same, and all valid claims will be paid.

You will soon receive an email from us letting you know if there’s anything we need you to do, and then we’ll take care of the rest.

As part of this transition, this also means that you will now become a member of The Shepherds Friendly Society. The benefit of being a member means you will be given the chance to have a say in how we’re run by voting in our Annual General Meeting (AGM). If you pay for your policy by card, you don’t need to do anything. Your premium collection will automatically be transferred over to Shepherds Friendly – look out for a payment reference that says “Shepherds Friendly”.

If you pay for your policy by Direct Debit, we’ll need you to re-enter your bank account details to keep this active – we’ll send you an email about this soon.

As part of the closure of DeadHappy, their website will also be closing down. Unfortunately, this means you will lose access to the login area where your policy documents are currently held. But don’t worry, if you haven’t had chance to log in and download your documents, you can get in touch with us and we’ll send you anything you need.

If you’re not sure which policy you have, please get in touch with us.

If you do decide to cancel and you pay for your policy monthly, as your policy has been in place for more than 30 days, no refund will be given. Instead, your policy will end at the next payment date and no further payments will be taken.

If you pay for your policy annually and decide to cancel mid-way through the year, you will receive a pro-rata refund to the nearest month.

You can’t make a claim once your insurance has been cancelled. However, if your policy was cancelled in error or because of a failed payment, you have 90 days from the cancellation date to reactivate your life insurance by contacting us. All missed payments will need to be paid before your life insurance can be reactivated.

If you have a Leveller Life Insurance policy, your premiums will always be the same.

If you have a 10-year Life Insurance policy or a Cancer Cover policy, in line with your terms and conditions, your premium will go up with your age. This increase will happen on your next policy anniversary. We would also like to assure you that in line with the terms and conditions of your policy, you will be invited to reset the term of your plan. We’ll be in touch with you regarding this, so please keep a look out for an email from us

Upon closure of the business, DeadHappy will delete all your personal data in their records and this will be securely held by Shepherds Friendly moving forward.

If you die, a list of your deathwishes will be provided alongside your payout to your legal representative. It’s kind of like an expression of wishes. To ensure your deathwish is legally enforceable, you must include it in a legally binding document, such as a will, separate from your life insurance policy.

If you have the Cancer Cover add-on with your life insurance policy, your payments will still be one combined premium in the same way they were with DeadHappy before.
